Internship Progress (Week of January 26th)

Updated: Apr 26, 2020

I started my internship at Embrace Relief as a social media intern. I'm here to report my learning experience as I am scheduled to work here for four months.

Embrace Relief is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization which collaborates with volunteers to deliver humanitarian aid and disaster relief to vulnerable communities around the world. In accordance with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, the team offers relief in the form of financial, emotional and physical support, in order to meet the needs of people ravaged by disaster and other misfortune. The foundation collects and distributes supplies to families, individuals and institutions.

Embrace Relief delivers research-based, sustainable solutions to achieve lasting improvements for individuals and communities.

My first task was to redesign a 5.5" by 11" handout that provides an impact report. The notes that border around state my first impressions:

1. Text is a tight fit in this box/needs negative space

2. Numbers are clearly stated

3. Phrasing is weird

4. Should reimage number data

5. Awkwardly centered

6. Too big, needs another title that conveys its purpose

7. Dotted lines may be mistook as cut-out coupons

8. Avoid repetition of icon

9. Decide how to display the data

10. Icon needs consistency/ appears like last thought

11. Needs infographic structure

As I began to brainstorm a new set of icons made for Embrace Relief I referred to their logo. I believed that the icons should maintain this origamic structure.

There were also established logos for other organizations that were simplified and shrunken.
